San Francisco, California St. Anthony's Free Clothing Program

St. Anthony Foundation’s Free Clothing Program is San Francisco’s largest free clothing program, providing warm clothes, interview or employment apparel, and children’s clothing to homeless and low-income families and individuals five days a week. Through nearly 4,500 donations from individuals and corporate partners and the dedication of 650 volunteer hours, the program provides free like-new clothing to 29,000 men, women and children each year.

The average family spends $700 a year on clothing a growing child; the majority of families have two or three children which can mean spending up to $2,100 a year. For a low-income or single parent struggling to pay rent, health costs and other critical bills, a clothing budget may be nonexistent. Our bilingual staff welcomes guests in a store-like environment where they select their own household and clothing items to best suit their needs. Whether wardrobe items for a job, warm clothes for winter months, or school clothes for growing young boys and girls, the Clothing Program provides high-quality clothes that instill a stronger sense of self-worth and dignity, and improve personal presentation to help clients secure and maintain employment.

In addition to the ongoing services at the Clothing Program’s Mission Street location, an emergency clothing closet next door to St. Anthony Dining Room provides emergency clothing to guests who would not otherwise make it to clothing services. Through this expanded service we can ensure that seniors and guests with disabilities receive clothes necessary for their safety, comfort and dignity.

This who they help:

The working poor. The newly homeless. Struggling seniors. The mentally ill. Whether underemployed or unemployable, the victim of tough times or tough streets, representing a long-term need or a short-term crisis, we try to help everyone who comes to us.

Our clients range from newborn to over 90; individuals to single parents to entire families; working, unable to work and unable to find work.

But one thing that many clients have in common? They never expected to need our help. (My comment- isn't that the truth!)

Be sure to see their tipping points

Free School Supplies and How To Find Them

Ok, I know it is our mission to find them for children who are in need of free school supplies that are of low income but here are ways you can search for them too. I am saying this as in Hampton, Tenn. Churches got together and gave away a lot of things children need for school year and you can see this to find out what they gave away was on 7/31! Here it is 8/7/2010 and I just learned this.

To learn of the giveway that took place.

My point is sometimes we don't catch every state and cities that give away free school supplies.  So I suggest that if you are reading this to visit us at Aidpage to see if anyone has listed programs such as these and to also google.com put in free school supplies and your city or local Salavation Army, churches and school districts to see if there is a program for you. It is a shame when the times are so hard for parents who really need the assistance that this passes anyone by because their city already had their program.

They can give away free school supplies, free food, free clothing, free backbacks among other basic things children who are of low income need to start school off with. Each program is different.

Rescue Mission of Salt Lake City , Utah

http://www.rescuesaltlake.org/

Click the link to learn how you can help the homeless and about the provision of emergency services, food, clothing plus shelter.....

The the cold, winter months are here. For the homeless and hurting these are the tough times, and the Mission wants to be there to help.

This winter we expect to serve more than 27,000 meals and provide over 1,200 family food boxes to Utah's neediest people. We are also expecting to see a surge in the demand for shelter and recovery services as people realize they no longer want to live on the streets and need help for a better life. As you can see we have a lot to get ready for.
